HAVDALAH SERVICES

Held at sunset on Saturday, Havdalah service marks the end of Shabbat and the beginning of a new week.  It is a beautiful service including prayer, music, wine, a box of aromatic spices and a special braided candle.

On the second Saturday evening of the each month, we will be holding Havdalah services at the United Jewish Center, with a kosher dairy potluck dinner before the service and dessert after.  Each guest family will bring an entree or salad, please call Stacey Spilka for an assigned dish to bring.

 HAVDALAH

In our opinion, Havdalah is one of the most “Haimish” observances of the week.  It signifies the start of a new week (the end of our Shabbat----on Saturday evening after sundown).

A few friends were sitting around one evening (Selichot evening, as a matter of fact), discussing how much we loved the Havdalah ritual.  We found ourselves commenting that we knew of no one place where one could go, should they crave this type of spirituality.  Thus, the birth of our “Traditional Monthly Havdalah Service”.

We would like to extend this forum to the entire community.  We will be holding a Havdalah ceremony at the United Jewish Center, Danbury, Connecticut, the second Saturday evening of each month, at 6:30 p.m.  All are welcome.  This is a children friendly, family friendly, friend friendly event.

We begin our evening with food (what Jewish event doesn’t).   It will be followed with song, drink (wine/juice), spice box and the lighting of our special candle.

This is our way of sharing with the community one of our very “special” traditions.
